DM2600 and GP340: how to convert the fleet from analog to digital

Typical situation: the park has long been working on analogue GP340 and vehicle-mounted GM340. There is a connection, but you want clear sound, group calls and text. Exit - vehicle-mounted DM2600: it holds the DMR numeral and at the same time analog channels to communicate with old stations.

Why not change everything at once?

Replacing the park requires a stop: as long as you change the two-way radio, there is no connection. In addition, the GP340 is discontinued, and Motorola is replacing it with the DP1400 and DP2400. Step-by-step transition through a two-mode station does not require a stop at all.

How it works.

The DM2600 in the machine is configured to two sets of channels: the old analog - shared with the GP340, and the new digital DMR. The old stations hear the analog channel as before, the new ones communicate with each other digitally: pure sound, group calls, text messages. The park is updated car by car, communication is not interrupted.

When to add a repeater

As long as the area is covered by a “two-way radio-two-way radio”, repeater is not required. When there are dead ends or want groups and text throughout the territory – put DR3000. The DM2600 supports IP Site Connect (multiple sites over IP) and Capacity Plus (many limited-spectrum subscribers). Repeater DR3000: its own tower, Replacement of old repeater.

What to Consider Before Buying

The DM2600 doesn’t have built-in GPS or Bluetooth, but it’s the DM4401. For a 45-watt configuration, you need a power supply cable of 20 A; for an on-board network of 24 V, a converter of 24 → 13.8 V; the antenna is not included in the kit. GP340 is not digitized: it is an analogue station, and VHF and UHF are not translated between each other.

Frequent questions about transition

Is it possible to flash GP340 under the digit? No: the hardware is an analog station.CTCSS/DCS/Select 5). Replace. Motorola name DP1400 and DP2400.

Will the DM2600 hear old GP340s? Yeah, on the general analog channel. Digital functions are only available between DMR stations.

Do I need to change all two-way radios at once? No, that’s the point of the DM2600: old and new stations work on the same network, the park is updated in stages.

What to choose instead of GP340 for the new park? Digital DP1400 and DP2400. If you go without disconnecting the old network - dual-mode vehicle-mounted DM2600.
